Those of you that know me know I am not a runner. In fact, I worked it out and it has been over 20 years since I ran for more than a couple of minutes; to the shop, from the car in the rain etc.

I watch the London Marathon every year and it never ceases to amaze me how many people run for such great causes and I always get emotional. My husband Duncan ran the London Marathon in 2010 for the children’s charity Sparks and I have always wanted to do it so as I am neither pregnant, nor getting younger thought that 2013 would be my year!

As well as running Organic Monkey, I am a committee member of The Early Birth Association, a charity set up to support the parents and families of premature and sick babies needing treatment on the local special care baby unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. As some of you know, my eldest son, Forrest, suffered from birth asphyxia when he was born and didn’t breathe for over half an hour. It is only due to the totally amazing staff on this unit and the pioneering ‘cooling treatment’ being available there that Forrest is alive today and a happy, healthy 3 year old.

Running the Brighton Marathon 2013 on their behalf is my way of saying thank you and hopefully will help to raise some much needed funds for an incredibly worthwhile cause and one so close to my heart. I have just set up a Justgiving page and hope to raise £1500 so if anyone wants to sponsor me here is the link:

I have just started training and running and I are still not friends but watch this space and I’ll keep you all updated on my progress.

Wish me luck
