<![CDATA[Blog]]> http://www.organicmonkey.co.uk/index.php/blog/ Fri, 18 May 2012 17:17:19 +0000 Zend_Feed http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss <![CDATA[Baby steps at Red Jelly]]> http://www.organicmonkey.co.uk/index.php/blog/jellyblog/ Last Thursday we had a great morning at the local Red Jelly creative play session set up by the wonderful Tash Tamlyn who invited us to take part and join in with the messy fun.

We met lots of lovely mums and their babies and made footprint pledges as part of our "Babies first steps" campaign for Fairtrade Fortnight. There was lots of paint and lots of mess and the babies loved it! All of the footprints were displayed at our Fairtrade event at Brighton and Hove Junior School the following day and for every painting we took to exhibit, we also gave the mums a footprint on a card to take away with them.

At Red Jelly classes, which run throughout the week, children play with and explore a variety of art and craft activities in their own time and own way.

Red Jelly was set up by Tash Tamlyn, a mum to two young children. An art and craft enthusiast, who just loves making things, Tash hopes to share her creativity and imagination with parents/carers and children, in a playful environment.

Red Jelly is a fantastic activity for both children and mums, all three of our little monkeys love being able to make as much mess as they want, painting, singing, exploring and being creative without limitation.

Here's some of the artwork the babies created!....

<![CDATA[Brighton and Hove Junior School Fairtrade Event]]> http://www.organicmonkey.co.uk/index.php/blog/blog/ Brighton and Hove Junior School Fairtrade Event.

We had a great time at Brighton and Hove Junior School on Friday night, taking part in their Fairtrade event. The event was well supported and we met lots of lovely children and parents who were all committed to ‘Take a Step for Fairtrade.

We displayed all of our lovely ‘Baby steps to Fairtrade’ artwork which looked really colourful and it was great to see all of the little footprint pledges. We received a great deal of interest in our products and spoke to dozens of people about why we have chosen to use Fairtrade ingredients and why it is so important to us. The raw Shea Butter we displayed on our stand was rather a hit, with mums rubbing it into their hands for immediate nourishment. Claudine and I particularly enjoyed the Fairtrade chocolate samples too!

Thank you for Alison and the rest of the team that organised the event for allowing us to be part of it and for making it so successful.

<![CDATA[Fairtrade Fortnight]]> http://www.organicmonkey.co.uk/index.php/blog/fairblog/ Fairtrade Fortnight is in full swing and we have already received a great deal of press coverage for our events and activities. Our award winning Bumfluff nappy balm was featured in The Independent yesterday and our Relieving Trio of oils was part of the Fairtrade focus in The Metro last Thursday.

So, armed with our Fairtrade coffees, Claudine and I are busily getting ready for the first of our events, ‘Baby Steps to Fairtrade’ in conjunction with Red Jelly creative play in Brighton where we are inviting little ones and their parents to paint their footprints for us to exhibit as part of a display at our second event at Brighton and Hove Junior School on Friday evening.

We use as many Fairtrade ingredients as are possible to source for our skin care range and all of our products have been certified by the Fairtrade Foundation. Fairtrade provides a better deal for producers in developing countries, creating opportunities for farmers and workers to improve their lives, their communities and protect their environment.

Take the raw shea butter we use in our nappy balm for example. This is produced in Ghana by the Akoma Co-operative Multipurpose Society who process nuts gathered from the karite tree grown in Bolgatanga Upper East Region Ghana. The Fairtrade premium received is helping members of the village of Pisi-Namogo, particularly the more vulnerable women, children and elderly, to rise out of poverty

<![CDATA[Organic Monkey and 2012]]> http://www.organicmonkey.co.uk/index.php/blog/newblog/ We are really looking forward to the New Year. With so many positive changes at the Organic Monkey HQ and lots of ideas floating around in the formulating room, we should be set to expand not only our range but our work force in early 2012.

With the help of our great PR company Green Goddess PR, last year we saw coverage in many of the major new mum magazines within the UK and we are set to be seen in many more.

With the new office premises, a brand new website, and a really exciting involvement with Fairtrade Fortnight we are ready to move into 2012 with great energy and we look forward to reconnecting with lots of our loyal customers and suppliers and many more new ones.

The Organic Monkey Team x
